Job Purpose
The Activities Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering engaging, safe, and enjoyable activity sessions to visitors of Lower Grange Farm. The position supports the centre’s mission to improve the lives of children and young people by fostering confidence, teamwork, and a sense of achievement, while upholding the highest standards of customer service and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a variety of outdoor and indoor activities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
- Provide clear instructions, guidance, and encouragement to children, young people, and adults, adapting sessions to suit different abilities and needs.
- Maintain a customer-centric approach, delivering exceptional service and responding promptly to queries or concerns.
- Actively promote and uphold the values of equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout all interactions and activities.
- Work collaboratively within a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work environment.
- Demonstrate initiative and independence when required, managing sessions and resolving issues proactively.
- Assist with the setup, maintenance, and tidying of equipment and activity areas.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by Lower Grange Farm Management to ensure the centre’s ongoing operational success and delivery of excellent customer experiences.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with children and young people in an educational, recreational, or activity-based setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of people.
- Demonstrable commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Impeccable work ethic and a practical, flexible approach to work.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant instructor or coaching certifications in outdoor or activity-based disciplines. Examples include Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI), Archery GB Coach, NSRA Coach, Paddlesport Instructor (PSI), Fencing Coach, Lowland Leader (LL), Camp Leader (CL) etc.
- First Aid qualification.
- Previous experience within a similar activity centre or youth organisation.
- Understanding of the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion in a working environment.

- Based at Lower Grange Farm Activity Centre, with both indoor and outdoor work required in varying weather conditions.
